Yak Sweaters

6 silhouettes — all 100% Himalayan-sourced yak wool. Cardigan styles include the 100% Yak Wool Relaxed Cardigan and the 100% Yak Soft Rib Crew Cardigan. Yak wool is the soft undercoat of yaks, native to the Himalayan highlands. Per Quince: yak wool is warmer yet more breathable than cashmere, with a comparably soft hand-feel. Compared to cashmere: yak has similar warmth-per-ounce but better breathability + better moisture wicking + naturally odor-resistant + more pill-resistant. Compared to merino: yak is warmer, with a softer hand-feel (less prickle). It's denser than cashmere — holds shape better between wears and lasts longer over time. The fiber is rarer than cashmere — only collected via combing during the annual molt.

Yak wool fibers have a unique hollow structure — air pockets inside each fiber give superior thermal regulation (warm in cold, cool in mild) and prevent moisture buildup. The denser fiber surface resists pilling far better than cashmere, and the natural antimicrobial properties of yak wool (similar to merino) prevent bacterial buildup that causes odor. You can typically wear a yak wool sweater multiple times between washes without it picking up smells. The fiber's strength also means yak sweaters hold their shape better between wears + last longer over time than cashmere.

Hand wash cool with mild detergent, lay flat to dry. Yak wool is more forgiving than cashmere — it handles gentle agitation better and pills less. Avoid hot water and tumble drying (high heat will felt the fibers permanently). Yak's natural odor resistance means fewer washes are needed — typically every 3-5 wears for active wear, less for indoor/lighter wear. Pill management is minimal — yak is naturally pill-resistant. Store folded, not hung. Avoid bleach. The Pointelle and Diamond Stitch styles have textured patterns — air-dry open (not rolled) to preserve the openwork pattern.
